Our Impact - Jack Smith

Jack Smith - swimmerWe are really pleased to hear about the progress of Jack Smith, who we supported three years ago.

Jack is 17 years old and is currently studying and training in Plymouth, where he swims for Plymouth Leander and is on a Swimming Scholarship at Plymouth College. He comes from Penkhull and is a former pupil at the Willows School. He is also an avid Stoke City supporter.

Down the years he has won several national junior titles and has broken several national junior freestyle records as well. The most recent of these came in March this year, when he won the 100 Freestyle Junior Title at the British Gas International Meet in Leeds, setting a new British Record of 51.02 for 16 year-olds.

The win qualified Jack to swim for Great Britain in the European Junior Championships in Poznan, Poland in July. He came back with a silver medal as a member of the 4 x 100 freestyle relay team.

Last week he competed in the British National Swimming Championships in Sheffield and became the National Youth Champion 100 Freestyle Champion. He also picked up a silver medal in the 50 Freestyle and the bronze in the 200 Free.

In November he will represent England at the World School games in Brasilia, Brazil.

Jack is pictured receiving the National Champion trophy last week.

Well done Jack. We are thrilled to hear how well you are doing and watch your progress with excitement.
