Rebound Therapy for lipoedema?

In conjunction with 'Talk Lipoedema'  - a major UK charity representing people with the condition, we will be conducting a controlled trial of the potential benefits of Rebound Therapy for lipoedema (spelt lipedema in the USA).

The trial will take place over 12 weeks commencing 19th April.

Lipoedema is a long term (chronic) condition where there is an abnormal build-up of fat cells in the legs, thighs and buttocks, and sometimes in the arms. The condition usually only affects women.

The trial will take place in East Grinstead with a group of eight women with lipoedema. A representative from 'Talk Lipoedema' will be present at all sessions and will be responsible for the  measurement and recording of progress and providing evidence of outcomes.

It is thought that 11% of women in the UK have lipoedema to some extent and the condition can affect them mentally by affecting self esteem and confidence, as well as physically. Therefore the plan is to measure and record emotional benefits as far as it is possible to do, as well as physical.

Do any of you already have experience of providing Rebound Therapy for people with lipoedema? If so, we would very much appreciate if you would share your views as to its effectiveness.

If you would like to be kept informed of the outcomes of the trials, please email us at

The 'Rebound Plus' course is a two-day add-on module for those who have already completed the Rebound Therapy training course.

It is designed to equip candidates to help their more able students progress beyond Rebound Therapy and start the transition into mainstream trampolining exercises.

The course covers grades 4 to 8 of the Winstrada development scheme and is therefore also suitable for mainstream beginners.

The course is run in-house for schools and centres and as an open course in the same way as our Rebound Therapy courses.

This special needs trampoline coach course is also suitable for teaching mainstream beginners and is step 2 of 3 on the Gymnastics UK pathway to recreational mainstream trampoline coaching.

The Rebound Therapy one-day Refresher Workshop is also recommended for:

* Those who have completed the Level 1 school or centre specific course and would like to upgrade to the Level 2 portable qualification.
* Those who have completed a special needs trampolining course run by a recognised provider and who would like to validate as a Rebound Therapy trainer.

We are very pleased to have received an enquiry for a training course in Hawaii.

Although Rebound Therapy has been successfully introduced to many countries other than the UK, the USA has been a hard nut to crack.
It looks as though Hawaii will be the first US state to be providing Rebound Therapy for students with special needs.
