Our Impact - Jessica Magson

Well it's been a very busy summer indeed for Jessica Magson

Jessica Morgan

Jess has been training and racing hard which has shown in her results. Jess has been to France, training in the French Alpes and in Lyon with the British Canoeing talent squads.  She had an amazing time paddling alongside Premier Division paddlers.

On returning to England Jess was invited to the London 2012 Olympic White Water Centre, Lee Valley, London.  Jess had a fantastic time and did her first session on the Olympic white water course. She was absolutely beaming when she got off and it appears to have given a great confidence boost.  Jess has competed in Scotland over the bank holiday weekend in Grandtully, Scotland where she acheived some fantastic results, and some personal best times.

September has been very busy so far for Jess. She has competed at Holme Pierrepont National White water centre in Nottingham and acheived her first division 1 first place in her C1 which earned her the maximum 1000 points towards her ranking.

Last weekend Jess was in Cardington, Bedford with her Canoe Club competing in the National Inter-club Championships, we can happily say that the team's acheived a 1st and 4th place and came home with the championship trophy for the 12th year in a row!

As well as starting back at school in year 10, and commencing her GCSE's.  (Jess is studying - English, English Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, RE, History, Geography, Physical Education and Drama ) Jess has a busy week of training ahead and will then be attending her profiling for the England Talent Squads, there is a lot of competition for places but jess has been training hard in the gym, on the river, and white water courses, and she has been doing some hill running to build up her stamina for the dreaded BLEEP Test!!!  I am sure she will do us proud whatever the outcome, but as we know talent squads are not the only route to the top!

As Jessica is now 8th in the UK in C1 (division 1) she is about to order a new race spec C1.  The boat will be cut specifically for Jess and she will be designing it herself.  This should give her the extra UMPH!!! she needs to propel her to the Premier division next season.  We hope for it to arrive within about 8 to 10 weeks in time for winter training.  This will enable Jess to get comfortable with it before the 2016 race season commences.

We wish Jess all the best with all her up and coming events.
