Grant Application

We have been involved with many coaching schemes across Stoke-on-Trent and beyond. We support the direct delivery of coaching projects, such as the scheme we deliver in partnership with Stoke-on-Trent College in local schools. We also make grants to sporting organisations and clubs to enable them to develop their programmes further via their own coaches. Many individual young people have also been awarded grants to enable them to access specialist coaching to enable them to deliver their skills further.

So far over 4000 children have been supported through our various projects and grants. Application forms are available from this website. If you are having difficulty downloading our forms, please contact us and we will be able to send you a hard copy in the post.

Application Process

The grants sub-committee meets regularly (usually once per month) to discuss all applications received. Applicants are usually informed of the panel's decision within a few days.  This will be done by email, telephone call or post. We have a limited amount of funding, so in some cases, it will not be possible to grant the full amount requested. If this is the case with your application, we will contact you to explain which elements of your application we are able to fund.

Please note that current priorities mean that the committee is more likely to support coaching costs than cover the price of equipment and sports kit. The panel's decision is final. If you are unsuccessful you will be given a reason for this. You can reapply at any time, although the outcome is unlikely to change.

In the past, we have made grants to support the purchase of equipment. The emphasis on our work has now shifted even further towards coaching and it is very unlikely that we will fund the purchase of equipment.

Therefore we urge that all new applications should have a coaching focus.

In addition, applications should also meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be under 21 but there is no upper age limit for coaches.

  • Individual applications should be made by (or on behalf of) people under the age of 21

  • Organisations or clubs should cater to young people under the age of 21

  • At least 12 months should have passed since a previous, successful application

We hope that all successful applicants would allow us to share their success and the part that Sir Stanley Matthews Coaching Foundation has played in this.
